【Germination procedure】

The seeds are pale brown with dark flecks and are coated with a slightly adhesive substance. The seeds are 1mm.in diameter.

1. Sow the seeds in a well drained medium. A mixture of sieved gravel: sandy loam is suitable.

2. Do not overcrowd the seeds; rather sow sparsely 1 seed/Flat plastic seed trays 10cm. deep are ideal.

3. Cover the seeds with a layer of sieved river sand 3-4 mm. thick. The granules of the river sand should be between 0.6 mm. - 1.2 mm. in diameter.

4. Water a pre-fungicial agent into the newly prepared seed pan.

5. Optinum germinating temperatures vary between 24 - 28 degree Celsius. Seedlings should emerge between 10 - 40 days after sowing.

6. Allow the seedlings to develop into plants 20 mm. in diameter before transplanting.

7. Remove the seedlings, carefully avoiding any injury to the roots.

8. Pot up the seedlings in plastic pots. A suitable medium of sieved gravel 2 mm. in diameter, sandy loam and well rotted compost can be used for potting up.

9. The growing medium must be well drained and be kept slightly moist. If high humidity is a problem, water young plants only one every 10-14 days. In dry arid climates water once every 3 days.
